TURBINE HYDROELECTRIC SCHEME PROPOSED FOR GORING WEIR.

This Newsletter reproduces, with extra information, an email sent to Members on Wednesday 14th October concerning this subject.

It has recently been brought to the Club's attention that an Application has once again been presented to South Oxford District Council for the installation of a Turbine Hydroelectric Scheme at Goring Weir. It is an Application that was previously refused. There is a short time to lodge an objection; closing date 21st October.

Should you agree this installation must be opposed please could you lodge an objection with the District Council. Details can be found at: www.southoxon.gov.uk Application reference is P15-S2496/FUL.

The exact link found on the South Oxford District Council Web Site is:- http://www.southoxon.gov.uk/ccm/support/Main.jsp?MODULE=ApplicationDetails&REF=P15/S2946/FUL.
Location of Subject Application

Should this Application be granted it will adversely affect the River Ecology up and downstream from the Weir and effectively destroy the beauty of the current Weir and surrounding area. Furthermore the turbine installation will not generate electricity for a substantial portion of the year. As Anglers, we know that in recent years it has been at least 4 months of each year that the Thames has suffered from flood or low water levels: times when the Turbine cannot be used. [That's investment money that would be better spent elsewhere].

There is a relevant and good Newsletter on the web site, reference NEWS 2, under the NEWS button that discusses the adverse affects this development would cause. [ To read click this link: Open the News 2 Newsletter ]

Your Club Chairman has been in touch with the Angling Trust and our thanks go to Mr Palmer for making us aware of this resubmission.
